Give Hope To HRI Residents Like"Ranjana"

“Ranjana” is an older adult living in an HRI property. A series of falls and a lost green card led to difficulty recertifying her housing subsidy, loss of other public benefits, and a substantial rent arrearage. With Ranjana’s housing in jeopardy, a referral from a Wingate property manager kicked off a response by HRI’s community engagement team and our Cambridge-based partners. Thanks to assistance from the Cambridge Multi-Service Center and the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee, Ranjana was able to replace the lost green card and restart critical housing and public benefits. From there, HRI’s community engagement coordinator worked with Somerville Cambridge Elder Services to connect Ranjana to home-health aides and an adult day program. Today, Ranjana enjoys stable housing and assistance with housekeeping. Ranjana is transported several times per week to participate in an adult day program to meet her health, social and nutritional needs.
